Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warriors rout Dutchmen, 87-54

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Five Lycoming College men's basketball players finished in double figures and Lycoming held second-place Lebanon Valley College to 33 percent shooting in an 87-54 MAC Commonwealth win at Sorrentino Gymnasium on Tuesday night, Feb. 14, for the Lycoming's 20th win of the season.

The Warriors (20-4 overall, 12-3 MAC Commonwealth) can now tie the school record of 21 wins during the team's final game of the season when it hosts Stevenson on Saturday, Feb. 18. Lebanon Valley (15-10 overall, 9-7 MAC Commonwealth) moved from second all the way to fifth in the conference standings, but along with Alvernia, Widener and Albright clinched a spot in next week's MAC Commonwealth Championship. Lycoming will serve as the top seed with the other four teams final championship seeds up for grabs on Saturday.

The Warriors dominated in the paint, outscoring the Dutchmen, 46-24, and dominated outside, outscoring the Dutchmen 30-15 in 3-pointers. Lycoming forced 16 turnovers, leading to 13 points, and 13 offensive rebounds, which led to 13 second-chance points. The team also had 12 fastbreak points.

Sophomore T.J. Duckett (Severna Park, Md./Calvert Hall) led the Warriors with 15 points, hitting five 3-pointers, and four rebounds. Senior David Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Communications Tech) added 13 points and six rebounds and senior Nyk King (Harlem, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science & Math) notched 10 points and 10 rebounds to go with three assists.

Both junior Chris Wallace (Randallstown, Md./Calvert Hall) and sophomore Jordan Howze (Washington, D.C./School Without Walls) each had 10 points, with Wallace adding five rebounds and two steals. Sophomore Calvin Chandler (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) added eight points and two assists.

The two teams fought through five ties and seven lead changes through the game's first 8:40 while neither team took more than a three-point lead during that stretch. Chandler hit a 3-pointer with 10:57 left, though, to give Lycoming a 21-19 lead and start a dominating second half of the period.

The Warriors finished the half on a 25-4 run, hitting 9-of-17 from the field and 4-of-8 from three to take a 20-point lead into the break. During the run, Wallace launched inside for a dunk that brought down the hoop stanchion, causing the Warriors to play the last five minutes of the half without a shot clock above their hoop. Howze led the run with eight points, canning two 3-pointers.

In the second half, the Dutchmen cut the lead to 15 points in the opening three minutes before Lycoming went on a 24-8 run, leading 69-38 with 8:40 left, with Johnson leading the run with nine points. The Dutchmen didn't close within 28 points after that and Lycoming was able to clear its bench with all 15 players playing at least five minutes and 12 playing 10.

Sam Light was the only Flying Dutchmen in double figures, finishing with 12 points. Andy Orr added nine points and six rebounds and Marquis Davis added seven points and three steals.

Senior Willie Kee (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) hit a layup to give him 1,000 points in his collegiate career. He scored 689 points in two years in junior college and now has 311 points in two years at Lycoming.

The Warriors wrap up the regular season when it hosts Stevenson University in a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 18. The women will tip at 1 p.m. before the men play at 3 p.m.
