Summerson leads Warriors on first day at MAC Individuals

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – For the second straight year, the doubles team of sophomores Hannah Summerson (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) and Julia Nagle (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) advanced to the semifinals of the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships to highlight the Lycoming College women's tennis team's performance on the first day of the tournament at Kirby Park on Saturday, Oct. 14.

Summerson and Nagle were the lone Lycoming doubles team to advance to the semifinals but in singles, senior Kaitlin Hallabuk (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) and Summerson both will play in the semifinals set to start at 9 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 15, at Kirby Park.

As the No. 3 seed at No. 2 doubles, Summerson and Nagle received a first-round bye before beating Lebanon Valley's Sammy Bost and Megan Williams, 8-3, in the quarterfinals. They will face No. 2 seed Christine Kenny and Nicole DelRosso in the semifinals in the first round of action in the morning.

In her No. 2 singles slot as the third seed, Summerson defeated Albright's Amanda Camporeae, 6-1, 6-1, in the first round before beating Stevenson's Kirstyn Davidson, 6-0, 6-2, in the quarterfinals. Summerson will face Misericordia's Carly Young, who Summerson defeated, 7-5, 6-3 on Oct. 7 in a 5-4 dual-meet win for the Warriors, in the semifinals.

Hallabuk won both her rounds at No. 3 singles as the fourth seed, beating Stevenson's Kelsi Mentzer in three sets, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 12-10. She then defeated DeSales' Sarah Chan, 6-3, 6-2, in the quarterfinals. Hallabuk will face the No. 1 seed in Wilkes' Dana Saliyev. With the two wins today, Hallabuk sits alone in fourth place in program history with 34 career singles wins.
