Sophie Herzing (St. Mary's, Pa./Elk County Catholic) and sophomore
Kaitlin Hallabuk (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) propelled the Lycoming College women's tennis team to a 7-2 win over Stevenson University in the MAC Commonwealth opener at Bruce Henry Park on Saturday, April 2.
The Warriors improved to 3-6 overall and 1-0 in the MAC Commonwealth, winning their conference opener for the first time since 2012, while the Mustangs, who had just five players, fell to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in MAC Commonwealth play.
Herzing led the Warriors, teaming with Hallabuk on an 8-4 win over Ashlyn Hawbaker and Colleen Martin at No. 1 doubles before posting a 6-2, 6-1 win over Hawbaker at No. 1 singles. Hallabuk, meanwhile, clinched the team's fifth point with a 7-6 (4), 5-7, 10-8 superset tiebreaker win over Ty-Chelle Williams.
After forfeit wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 doubles, the wins by Herzing and Hallabuk in singles play clinched the match win. With the match in hand, junior

Samantha Bruckart (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) added a 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-5 superset tiebreaker win over Christina Endy at No. 5.
The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, April 6, when they host Keuka in non-conference action at Bruce Henry Park, with first serve set for 3 p.m.
