Warriors fall to 18th-ranked Bobcats

FROSTBURG, Md. – Freshman Andrew Ream (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) notched two goals and senior Jake Wanamaker (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) added a goal and two assists to lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team, but a seven-goal second quarter helped 18th-ranked Frostburg State to a 14-5 win on Wednesday afternoon, March 9, at Bobcat Stadium.
 
Lycoming (1-4 overall) got out to a solid start against the Bobcats (6-0 overall), tying the game at one with 8:55 left in the first quarter off a goal from Wanamaker. Late in the quarter, junior Marcus Winn (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) added his first score of the year on a dish from Wanamaker to take a 2-1 lead. However, the Bobcats scored 11 of the next 12 goals to take a 12-3 lead after a score by Nick Pontorno with 5:52 left in the third quarter.
 
Junior Peter Pluta (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and Ream each added goals to cut the Bobcat lead to seven goals, but Frostburg State scored the final two goals of the game.
 
Chase Cullison led the Bobcats with four goals, an assist, five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Nick Stailey posted two goals and an assist and Michael Kibler also notched two goals.
 
Freshman Eric Schutta (Frenchtown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) led the Warrior defense with three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior Lee Pappas (New Windsor, Md./Glenelg Country School) added three ground balls and an assist.
 
Eric Geiser led the Bobcats with eight ground balls, as he won 12-of-15 at the 'x' and Spenser Love added a goal, two assists and five ground balls.
 
Tom Kraemer (6-0) earned the win for Frostburg, as he made four saves in 55 minutes in net. Lycoming's goalkeepers split time, with freshman Joshua Tscheulin (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) (0-2) posting seven saves in the first half and freshman Michael Tenant (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) stopped two in the second half.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, March 12, when they host Muhlenberg at 1 p.m. in non-conference action at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
