Warriors fall to nationally-ranked Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Lycoming College men's lacrosse team fell victim to a hot-shooting 18th-ranked Ithaca College on Tuesday afternoon, March 1, falling 20-1 at Higgins Stadium.
 
Lycoming (1-3 overall) took advantage of its one man-up situation in the game, with junior Peter Pluta (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) scoring off a pass from high school teammate, freshman Tim Breau (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) with 1:42 left in the second quarter.
 
Ithaca (2-0 overall), however, jumped out with an 11-goal first quarter and never looked back, firing 51 shots in the contest. Will Witter led the team with four goals and an assist and  Jake Cotton added two goals and four assists. Connor Hulme and John Januskiewicz each posted two goals and two assists and Jack Shumway notched a goal and four assists.
 
Senior Michael Wagner (Pasadena, Md./St. Mary's) led the Warrior defense with three groundballs and two caused turnovers. Freshman Cole Masterson (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and junior Brendan Loftus (Pine Brook, N.J./Millstone Township) each also caused two turnovers. Junior Kyle Armstrong (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) won five faceoffs, picked up two ground balls and caused a turnover.
 
The Warriors took 18 shots in the game, forcing Ithaca keepers Scott Sidnam (2-0), Jack Deragon and Justin Isaacs to make four saves. Freshman Michael Tenant (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) (1-2) made six saves in the first quarter and freshman Joshua Tscheulin (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) stopped six shots in the final three quarters.
 
Grant Osadchey posted seven faceoff wins and seven groundballs for Ithaca and Eli Gobrecht led the Bombers with four caused turnovers.
 
Lycoming gets back on the field on Wednesday, March 9, when it heads to Frostburg State, which is receiving votes in the latest USILA Division III poll, for a 4 p.m. contest.
