Warriors rout Penn State Schuylkill in Dutch Burch opener

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Five Lycoming College men's basketball players finished in double figures and the team shot a fiery 56 percent from the floor as it crossed the century mark for the first time 2013 in a 111-81 win over Penn State Schuylkill in the opening game of the Dutch Burch Tip-Off on Friday, Nov. 18 at Lamade Gym.
 
The Warriors get back in action on Saturday, Nov. 19, when they face Western Connecticut State in the championship game of the Dutch Burch Tip-Off at 3 p.m. as they seek their second straight Dutch Burch Tip-Off title. Western Connecticut State defeated Haverford, 78-67, in the other semifinal game.
 
Senior David Johnson (Philadelphia, Pa./Communications Tech) led the Warriors (2-0 overall) with 17 points while junior Alex Newbold (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) added 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Both freshman Ronald Jefferson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) and sophomore Jordan Howze (Washington, D.C./School Without Walls) had 14 points and junior Chris Wallace (Randallstown, Md./Calvert Hall) added 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.
 
The Warriors were focused out of the gate, using a dunk by Wallace to ignite a run of 10 straight points during a 20-7 start in the first four minutes. The Nittany Lions closed within 10 points at 29-19 with 11:51 left, but Lycoming responded with another run of 10 points to take a 45-22 lead with 8:11 left in the half. Keeping the lead around 20 points the rest of the way, the Warriors again expanded it as the half came to a close with the last eight points of the half, with seniors Nyk King (Harlem, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science & Math) and Willie Kee (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) both converting fastbreak buckets to wrap up the scoring.
 
The Warriors continued the torrid pace in the second half, scoring 46 points and opening up a lead by as many as 34 points at 111-77 with 1:33 left before the Nittany Lions (1-2 overall) closed the game with four points.
 
Freshman Trent Bishop (Hyattsville, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) finished with nine points and eight rebounds and both sophomore Hiro Yamaki (Sakata, Japan/Sakata East) and junior Darius James (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) each added seven points. Freshman Damani Myers (Baldwin, N.Y./St. Mary's) added five points, seven assists and two steals and Kee finished with five points and five assists. Sophomore T.J. Duckett (Severna Park, Md./Calvert Hall) led the team with three steals.
 
Derek Dimond led the nittany Lions with 29 points and five rebounds and Kody Jacoby finished with 11 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Will Bracey finished with 12 points and Benioko Harris also had 12 points and six rebounds.
 
Lycoming finished 42-of-75 from the floor and 9-of-22 (40 percent) from 3-point range, while also holding a 56-34 advantage on the glass, which led to a 56-28 advantage in the paint.
