Wylly stops 24 as Warriors fall to No. 7 Mustangs

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Senior Alex Wylly (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) stopped a career-high 24 shots, the third-most in program history, to lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team, but seventh-ranked Stevenson University was able to post a 21-5 Commonwealth Conference win at Mustang Stadium on Tuesday night, April 21.

The 24 stops, two shy of the school record of 26 set by Jared Jankowski against Widener on April 27, 1999 and Kyle Gilfoy against Widener on April 18, 2009, helped Wylly finish the game tied with Gilfoy (2006-09) for second in school history with 572 career saves.

In addition to Wylly, junior Mike Cooper (Riva, Md./Archbishop Spalding) became the 16th player in program history to reach 100 career points, as he notched two goals and an assist to lead the Warriors (2-12 overall, 2-5 Commonwealth).

Seniors Steve Campaniello (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili), Trevor Williams (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Catholic) and Kieran McLaughlin (Elverson, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) also scored for the Warriors. Cooper picked up four ground balls and junior Michael Wagner (Pasadena, Md./St. Mary's) scooped up five. Williams forced two turnovers and McLaughlin also picked up four ground balls.

Freshman Garrett Huff (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) and sophomore Marcus Winn (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) each added one assist.

After an early man-up goal by Stevenson, Williams scored unassisted to tie the game at one with 11:43 left in the opening quarter. The Mustangs scored the next 12 goals, though, to take control of the game.

Matt Tompkins led the Mustangs (12-4 overall, 7-0 Commonwealth) with five goals and an assist and Stephen Banick added two goals and four assists. Callum Robinson led the defense with five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Kevin Cain stopped three shots in the win for Stevenson.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, April 25, when they host Commonwealth Conference foe Alvernia at 1 p.m. in the season finale for both squads.
