Warriors drop Defenders, 8-1

Box Score CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Five Lycoming College women's tennis players won both their singles and doubles matches to lead the team to an impressive 8-1 win over Baptist Bible College in non-conference action on Saturday, April 15 at the Brentwood Tennis Club.
 
Senior Miranda Giraldo (Hudson, N.H./Cumberland Valley) and senior Abbey Smith (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) posted an 8-2 win over Savannah Lopez and Bliss Lecea at No. 1 doubles to start the Warriors (3-9 overall) on a sweep of the three doubles matches. Senior Shannon Sheridan (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) and sophomore Sophie Herzing (St. Mary's, Pa./Elk County Catholic) added an 8-4 win over Maggie Black and Chelsea Miller and No. 2 and freshmen Kaitlin Hallabuk (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) and Ashley Stover (Bel Air, Md./Patterson Mill) added an 8-3 win over Ashley Swingle and Stephanie Kish at No. 3.
 
In singles play, Sheridan posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Lecea at No. 1 and Smith posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Miller at No. 4 singles to help clinch the win. Stover also added a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kish at No. 6. The team rounded out the win with two pro-set victories, as Hallabuk downed Lopez, 8-2, at No. 3 and Herzing notched an 8-0 win over Black at No. 5.
 
Baptist Bible fell to 7-10 overall.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Friday, April 17, when they host Messiah College in a Commonwealth Conference match at 3:30 p.m. at Bruce Henry Park.
