Warriors fall to Dutchmen

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Alex Wylly (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) became the third goalkeeper in school history to reach 500 career saves with a 15-stop performance, but the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team fell victim to a four-goal second quarter by Lebanon Valley College in Commonwealth Conference action as it fell, 7-2, on a sunny Wednesday, April 1, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

Wylly joined Jared Jankowski (1998-01) and Kyle Gilfoy (2006-09) in the 500-save club with his 13 of 15 saves. He notched six saves in the first half before adding nine more in the second half.

After both teams struggled to get their footing in the first quarter, Lebanon Valley (7-3 overall, 3-0 Commonwealth) finally found the back of the net with 2:23 left on a man-up goal. The Warriors (1-8 overall, 1-1 Commonwealth) responded with a goal less than a minute later when senior Thomas Hanson (Tucson, Ariz./Catalina Foothills) grabbed a loose ball and ran the length of the field before spinning around and firing a shot into the bottom of the net with 1:14 left.

The Flying Dutchmen took control in the second quarter, scoring four goals in the period's first eight minutes before adding two more scores in the third quarter to take a 7-1 lead. Lycoming rounded out the scoring late in the fourth quarter when senior Trevor Williams (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Catholic) was found by junior Mike Cooper (Riva, Md./Archbishop Spalding) for Williams' sixth goal of the year.

Hanson finished with career highs of eight ground balls and five caused turnovers. He also added his second career goal. Senior Joe Marchetti (Cortland, N.Y./Homer) added three ground balls and a caused turnover and junior James Ahrens (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) added two ground balls and a caused turnover.

Brett Kudlak led the Dutchmen with two goals and an assist and both Matt Aldridge and Koty Keefer each added two goals. Jeremy Beaver picked up five ground balls and Blake Weaver added four. Zane Brown posted two caused turnovers.

Eric Wilcoxson earned the win, notching 16 saves for the Dutchmen.

The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, April 8, when they head to Messiah for another critical Commonwealth Conference game at 4 p.m.
