Trevor Williams (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Catholic) scored two goals and senior
Alex Wylly (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) stopped 13 shots to lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team, but a five-goal third quarter helped undefeated Frostburg State stay that way, as it posted a 12-4 win at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on a sun-drenched Wednesday, March 11.
The Warriors (0-5 overall) put up a tough challenge for the Bobcats (6-0 overall), who are receiving votes in the USILA national poll. The Warriors picked up 23 ground balls that weren't off faceoffs, while Frostburg State picked up just 14. The Warriors also finished the first half with a 13-12 advantage in shots, but the Bobcats took 20 in the second half while holding Lycoming to seven.
The Bobcats opened the game with two goals in the game's first seven minutes, but Lycoming, thanks to two faceoff wins, answered with unassisted goals from Williams and junior
Lee Pappas (New Windsor, Md./Glenelg Country School) over a three-minute span helped Lycoming tie the game.
Frostburg State answered with a goal from Spenser Love with 3:11 left in the first quarter, starting a run of six straight goals that lasted until the 13:17 mark of the third quarter and gave the Bobcats an 8-2 lead. Senior
Steve Campaniello (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) helped Lycoming end the run with a wrap-around goal and Williams also added another score in the second half, but Lycoming couldn't close within six.
Campaniello finished with a goal and four ground balls and Pappas added a goal and three ground balls. Senior
Jacob Eller (Durham, N.C./Riverside) added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Both senior
Joe Marchetti (Cortland, N.Y./Homer) and junior
Jake Wanamaker (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) each notched three ground balls and caused a turnover.
Nick Stailey and Tate Rolland each posted four goals and an assist to lead the Bobcats, while Devin Colegrove notched two goals and an assist and Love also added two goals. Chris Rios notched three assists. Kyle Horak led the team with six ground balls.
In net, Wylly stopped 13 shots for the Warriors, including nine in the second half, and Tom Kraemer earned the win by making seven stops for the Bobcats.
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, March 14, when they head to Muhlenberg for a 1 p.m. start.
