WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Seniors
Steve Campaniello (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) and
Christian Jacobs (Gwynn Oak, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) each scored two goals to lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team, but a four-goal first quarter helped Gwynedd Mercy University post an 11-7 non-conference win at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Saturday, Feb. 28.

Campaniello finished with two goals and an assist and Jacobs contributed two scores on solid dodging runs. Junior
Mike Cooper (Riva, Md./Archbishop Spalding) also added two assists for the Warriors (0-2 overall).

The Griffins (2-0 overall) jumped out with four goals in the game's first 12 minutes and headed into the second quarter with a 4-0 lead, when the Warriors began to chip into the lead. Sophomore
Marcus Winn (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) squeezed through two defenders and fired his first collegiate goal in with 11:35 left. Jacobs then dodged up the middle and fired in a shot at the 6:47 mark and Cooper found Campaniello for another score with 4:18 left to make it 4-3.

However, Gwynedd Mercy, which won 9-of-20 at the faceoff 'x', won the next two faceoffs and scored quickly each time, taking a 6-3 lead into the break.

To start the second half, Jacobs took a shot that ricocheted into the net with 13:04 left, helping Lycoming close within two, but Gwynedd Mercy, using three goals from Nico Belardo scored four in a row to take a 10-4 lead into the fourth quarter.

Lycoming closed back within four in the first 66 seconds of the fourth quarter, with Campaniello and junior
Jake Wanamaker (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) each scoring. The Griffins scored once more to make it a five-point game. The Warriors closed the gap to its final margin with a transition goal by sophomore
Brendan Loftus (Pine Brook, N.J./Montville Township).

Junior
Kyle Armstrong (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) won 10-of-18 at the 'x' against a tough faceoff specialist in Tony McCraw. Junior
Michael Wagner (Pasadena, Md./St. Mary's) added five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior
Trevor Williams (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Catholic) also notched four groundballs, as Lycoming held a 28-26 advantage in ground balls.

The Warriors also held a 41-32 advantage in shots, but the Griffins got five goals and two assists from Belardo and Blase Cesarone added three scores. Tony McCraw notched a goal and two assists, plus he also added eight ground balls. Nick Harkins posted three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

John Black stopped 14 shots to earn the win for the Griffins and senior
Alex Wylly (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) stopped 10 shots for the Warriors.

The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, March 4, when they host 13
th-ranked Ithaca at the Shangraw Athletic Complex at 3:30 p.m.
