LEXINGTON, Va. – Six Lycoming College wrestlers swept their three matches during the Washington & Lee Duals on Monday, Dec. 21, helping Lycoming overwhelm Southern Virginia, 55-0, Washington & Lee, 33-14, and Greensboro, 42-9.
Â
The Warriors picked up 13 bonus-point victories during the dual meets, helping the team to improve to 6-3 overall. The heart of the lineup from 141-165 pounds went a perfect 12-0, with freshman
Joe Santomarco (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) (141), junior
Seth Lansberry (Klingerstown, Pa./Line Mountain) (149), senior
Matt Neff (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) (157) and junior
Nolan Barger (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) accounting for 65 of the team's 130 points. Junior
Skylar Ebner (Muncy, Pa./Muncy Area) added three wins and 18 team points at 197 and senior
Max Lamport (Califon, N.J./Voorhees) added three wins and 15 points at 285 pounds.
Â
Lycoming was forced to comeback from a nine-point deficit in the final match of the day against Greensboro (4-7 overall), but rolled up 42 points in the last eight bouts to take a 42-9 decision.
Â
After losses in the opening two bouts, Santomarco got the Warriors going with a major decision of Jonathan Bennett, 14-3, at 141. Lansberry tied the meet at nine with a 17-1 first-period technical fall of Ricardo Cunha and a forfeit at 157 gave Lycoming a lead it didn't relinquish. Barger and junior
Brandon Conrad (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) followed with pins to put the meet out of reach and Lamport added a third Warrior pin at heavyweight to cap the 42-point run.
Â
The Warriors picked up four wins by bonus points against Washington & Lee to post a 33-14, with the heart of the team's lineup from 141-165 pounds producing 20 points.
Â
Sophomore
Kyle Drick (Allenwood, Pa./Montgomery Area) got the Warriors started with an 11-0 win over Ethan Hartman at 125 pounds before a technical fall at 133 gave the Generals (5-5 overall), a 5-4 lead. Santomarco got the lead back, though, posting a 13-4 win over Alex Pollera at 141 and Lansberry expanded it with a 14-2 win over Michael Dix at 149.
Â
Neff delivered a big blow with a pin of Zachary Papin in 3:52 at 157 to make it 18-5 and a forfeit at 165 made the lead nearly insurmountable. However, the Generals won the next two matches to close within 24-14 before a forfeit at 197 ensured the Warrior win. Lamport closed out the meet with a 7-0 win over Mathew Kaminer.
Â
Against Southern Virginia (1-5 overall), the Warriors quickly sewed up a win thanks to five forfeits and three pins. Barger had the quickest fall, dropping Travis Trahan in 15 seconds at 165 pounds. Ebner added a pin in 38 seconds against Caleb West at 197 pounds in his first bout of the year and Rudy notched his pin in 1:35 against Caleb West at 184 pounds.
Â
The Warriors get back on the mat on Sunday, Jan. 3, when they host the N.Y./Pa. Duals at Lamade Gym, facing SUNY Oswego at 1:30 p.m. and RIT at 3:30 p.m.
