Durrant helps Warriors outlast Devils

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Mariah Durrant (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) clinched the Lycoming College women's tennis team's first win of the season, as she notched a point from her knees to seal her win at No. 4 singles to give Lycoming a 5-4 win over FDU-Florham on Friday afternoon, Sept. 26, at Bruce Henry Park.
 
Durrant notched a 6-1, 6-4 win over Ore Obiwumi, winning the match point after falling to her knees to get continue a rally. When Obiwumi returned the ball, Durrant lunged and sent the ball over Obiwumi's head for the match-clinching point.
 
The Warriors (1-2 overall) started the match with two of three wins in doubles play, as senior Shannon Sheridan (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) and freshman Kaitlin Hallabuk (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) notched an 8-0 win over Tenzin Lama and Obiwumi at No. 2 and junior Samantha Bruckart (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) and freshman Ashley Stover (Bel Air, Md./Patterson Mill) notched an 8-1 win over Raschelle Belfer and Kandace Moore.
 
The Devils (0-2 overall) fought back to a take a 4-2 lead with wins at No. 1 doubles and the first three singles flights, but Lycoming responded by sweeping the bottom half of the lineup. Bruckart notched a 6-0, 6-0 win over Moore at No. 6 before Hallabuk notched a 6-1, 6-1 win over Belfer at No. 5 to set up the meet-clinching win by Durrant at No. 4.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Tuesday, Sept. 30, when they head to Penn College for a 4 p.m. match.
