WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – It took five and a half hours, but by the time the final shot flew wide right, senior Kendall Connors (Republic, Pa./Brownsville Area) had delivered the first Commonwealth Conference win for the Lycoming College women's tennis team in 13 matches as she lifted Lycoming to a 5-4 win over Hood in Commonwealth Conference action at Bruce Henry Park on Saturday, April 12.

Connors was involved in a rollercoaster match at No. 6 singles, as she won her first four games in the match with Hood's Kendra Laster. Laster came back to win the next five games, but Connors won the last three to take the first set, 7-5.

In the second set, Connors was able to close out the win, taking a 5-4 lead and winning the last two points of the 10th game of the set after it was tied at 30.

The win improves the Warriors to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in the Commonwealth Conference while Hood fell to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the Commonwealth. The win is Lycoming's first in conference play since its opening match in 2012, a 5-4 win over Albright.

The Warriors jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play, with Connors and freshman Sophie Herzing (St. Mary's, Pa./Elk County Catholic) posting an 8-0 win over Meaghan Donahue and Laster at No. 3 and senior Kathy Jacobs (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) and junior Shannon Sheridan (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) posting an 8-4 win over Olivia Hosch and Rachel Hall at No. 1.

In singles play, Sheridan extended the Warriors lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hosch at No. 1 singles, but Hood came back to take the lead with wins at No. 2, 3 and 4 singles, leaving them one win shy of clinching the match.

Herzing tied the match at four, however, posting a 6-3, 6-2 win over Donahue at No. 5 singles, setting up Connors win at No. 6. At the time of Herzing's win, Connors held a 3-0 lead in the first set of her match, leaving Connors and Laster the only pair on the court for the last hour of the match.

The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, April 16, when they head to Albright for a 3 p.m. Commonwealth Conference match.
