Warriors sweep double-dual with King’s, FDU

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – A pair of wins for both the Lycoming College men's and women's swimming teams helped both teams finish the 2013-14 dual meet season with winning records during a double-dual meet at the Catholic Youth Center, on Saturday, Jan. 25. The men's swim team posted a 171-73 win over King's and a 183-66 win over FDU-Florham and the women notched a 207-11 win over FDU-Florham and a 143.5-116.5 win over King's.
 
The men's team was led by three individual wins each from junior Dan Woods (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) and sophomore Josh Thomas (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran), as the Warriors won all 14 events during the meet.
 
Woods picked up wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.15), the 100-yard freestyle (50.08) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.22) and Thomas posted wins in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.18), the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.31) and the 100-yard butterfly (56.44).
 
Senior Jack Port (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) picked up wins in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:12.10) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.31) and sophomore Trevor Endler (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) won both breaststroke events, notching a 1:04.84 in the 100 and a 2:24.41 in the 200.
 
Two others picked up one individual win, as sophomore Dan Apostolu (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) won the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.22) and senior C.J. Arhontakis (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) picked up the 50-yard freestyle (23.14).
 
In the relays, Apostolu, Endler, Woods and Arhontakis took the 200-yard medley relay, winning by nearly four seconds in 1:43.77 and the squad of Apostolu, Thomas, senior Jake Pelinsky (Southwick, Mass./Westfield) and senior Zack Brower (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) notched a time of 1:33.83 to take the 200-yard freestyle relay.
 
The men's squad finishes the year 5-4 overall, marking the 13th straight non-losing campaign.
 
On the women's side, the Warriors won nine of the 14 races to cruise past both King's and FDU-Florham and finish the season 6-4 overall, the 13th straight winning season for the squad.
 
Juniors Danielle Loiseau (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Brigid Clark (Wyndmoor, Pa./Springfield) and BethAnn Schwoyer (Williamsport, Pa./Homeschooled) each won two individual events to lead the Warriors. Loiseau picked up wins in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.81) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.17). Clark won the 50-yard freestyle (26.41) and the 100-yard freestyle (58.02) and Schwoyer won both backstroke events, taking the 100 in 1:05.52 and the 200 in 2:20.09.
 
Sophomore Jilly Flynn (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) won the 100-yard backstroke (1:13.31) and junior Alexia Follweiler (New Ringgold, Pa./Panther Valley) tied for the win in the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.54) with King's Patricia Manning.
 
In the relays, the team of Schwoyer, Flynn, Loiseau and Clark posted a time of 1:58.04 to take the 200-yard medley and the team of Schwoyer, freshman Morgan Black (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone), Clark and sophomore Felicia Sloyer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) notched a time of 1:47.07 to win the 200-yard freestyle by more than five seconds.
 
The Warriors will now take two weekends off before wrapping up the season with the four-day Middle Atlantic Conference Championships, beginning on Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Graham Aquatic Center in York, Pa.
