Warriors sweep Flying Dutchmen on Senior Day

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Three individual wins each from sophomore Josh Thomas (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) and junior Daniel Woods (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) helped lead the Lycoming College swim teams to a sweep of its Senior Day dual with Lebanon Valley College in Middle Atlantic Conference action at Lamade Gym Natatorium on Saturday, Jan. 11.
 
The duo helped the Warrior men notch wins in all 14 races, with Thomas picking up wins in the 400-yard individual medley (4:33.65), 200-yard backstroke (2:06.50) and 200-yard butterfly (2:06.45) and Woods posting victories in the 100-yard butterfly (52.63), the 100-yard freestyle (a team season-best 49.03) and the 100-yard backstroke (58.13).
 
In addition, senior Jack Port (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) posted wins in the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.63) and 1,000-yard freestyle (11:01.07), helping Lycoming improve to 2-4 overall. Lebanon Valley fell to 4-4 overall.
 
Senior Jake Pelinsky (Southwick, Mass./Westfield) posted a 2:23.81 to win the 200-yard breaststroke, senior C.J. Arhontakis (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) added a time of 23.12 to win the 50-yard freestyle. Senior Zack Brower (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) rounded out the wins by seniors, posting a time of 1:57.98 to take the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore Trevor Endler (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) also won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.11.
 
Lycoming also won both relays, with the team of Arhontakis, senior Luke Dohrman (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown), Pelinsky and Brower won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:32.81 and the team of sophomore Dan Apostolu (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), Woods, Thomas and Arhontakis posted a time of 1:43.70 to win the 200-yard medley.
 
The Warrior women also performed well while improving to 2-4, as they won 11 of the 14 events, led by two wins each from sophomore Jilly Flynn (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) and junior BethAnn Schwoyer (Williamsport, Pa./Homeschooled).
 
Flynn notched wins in both breaststrokes, posting a time of 2:44.56 to take the 200-yard event and a time of 1:16.07 to win the 100. Schwoyer notched a time of 1:06.00 to take the 100-yard backstroke and also won the 200 with a time of 2:19.74.
 
Several other Warriors also won events, with freshman Cydnei Crust (Bellefonte, Pa./Commonwealth Connections Academy) posting a time of 5:54.43 to take the 500-yard freestyle, junior Brigid Clark (Wyndmoor, Pa./Springfield) posting a season-best time of 58.24 to take the 100-yard freestyle and freshman Morgan Black (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) notched a time of 27.16 to take the 50-yard freestyle. Junior Alexia Follweiler (New Ringgold, Pa./Panther Valley) added a time of 2:21.19 to take the 200-yard butterfly and senior Jennie Marosits (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) added a time of 12:04.51 in the 500-yard freestyle.
 
Lycoming also won both relays, with Schwoyer, Clark, Follweiler and sophomore Felicia Sloyer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) posting a time of 1:45.84 to win the 200-yard freestyle and the team of Schwoyer, Flynn, junior Danielle Loiseau (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and Sloyer posted a time of 2:01.52 in the 200-yard medley.
 
The Warrior women will get back in the pool on Wednesday, Jan. 15, when they face Mansfield in a dual meet at 7 p.m. The Warrior men get back in the pool on Saturday, Jan. 18, when they head to Arcadia with the women for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
