Box Score ALFRED, N.Y. – Three singles wins for the Lycoming College women's tennis team on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 22, helped the team make a valiant comeback, but Alfred University was able to hold on for a 6-3 win in non-conference action.
 
Junior Shannon Sheridan (Danville, Pa./Danville) notched a 6-4, 6-2 win over Brennan Ferguson at No. 1 singles and senior Annie Wegman (Douglassville, Pa./Exeter Township) posted a 6-1, 6-4 win over Bethany Dickerson at No. 6 singles, to help Lycoming (0-3 overall) move within two points.
 
However, after sweeping doubles, despite the matches at No. 1 and No. 3 being decided by just two games, the Saxons (2-6 overall) were able to wrap up the match with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. At No. 5 singles, freshman Sophie Herzing (St. Mary's, Pa./Elk County Catholic) won her first career match, posting an 8-2 win over Alison Clemente in a superset. Alfred rounded out the scoring with a superset win at No. 2.
 
The Warriors wrap up the dual meet portion of their dual meet season on Thursday, Oct. 3, when they host Penn College at 3:30 p.m. at Bruce Henry Park.
