WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Holly Lansberry (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville Area) pitched the first seven-inning perfect game in school history to lead the Lycoming College softball team to a sweep of Keystone College on Tuesday afternoon, April 16, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex, winning Lansberry’s game one perfecto, 3-0, and game two, 4-0.

Lansberry (6-5) tore through the Giants’ lineup, striking out 12, including eight in a row from the first to third innings, and never letting a runner reach first base. The perfect game is the fourth in school history and the first since Brie Braga and sophomore Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) combined on a five-inning 11-0 win over Principia in 2012. Both Morgan Mantle (2005) and Kristen Reese (2006) also tossed five-inning perfect games against Keystone.

It was also Lansberry’s second no-hitter of the season, as she also tossed a three-walk, five-inning gem against Penn College on March 26.

After five runners were stranded in the first four innings, the Warriors (13-15 overall) broke through in the fifth inning, as senior Allyson Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) singled up the middle. Lansberry followed with a bunt single and a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third for senior Amy Cline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg), who delivered a single into left field to score Marianelli. After a fielder’s choice cut Lansberry down at the plate, senior Taylor Lesser (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) stole second and helped Cline score when the throw to second went to the outfield. Cline scored on a bunt single by senior Janelle Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) to round out the scoring.

Lycoming cranked out seven hits in the game and drew five walks off Keystone’s Karissa Worobey (9-10). She struck out three.

Lapano (5-8) also pitched brilliantly for the Warriors in the second game, tossing a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts to lead the team to a 4-0 win over Keystone (13-16 overall).

Lapano walked two, but let just one runner reach third and one reach second, stranding all five base runners.

The Warriors got on the board in the third inning, as freshman Ashley Burger (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) walked and freshman Dominique Thomas (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) came in to pinch-run. She stole second and took third on a grounder. After Lansberry drew a walk, she stole second, setting up a single through the left side by Cline, bringing in both runners.

In the fifth inning, the Warriors added two more runs, as Lansberry led off with a double down the line. After a groundout, Lesser blooped a double down the line before Poorman singled into left to score Lansberry. A groundout helped Lesser score.

Cline went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Warriors and Lansberry scored twice.

Sara Schraden (4-6) took the loss for the Giants, allowing four hits, four runs and five walks.

The Warriors get back in action on Thursday, April 18, when they head to Elmira for a 3 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
