Warriors take some leaps at Cougar Classic

DALLAS, Pa. – A solid overall performance helped the Lycoming College women’s cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the Cougar Classic at Misericordia University on Saturday, Sept. 15, led by a seventh-place finish from senior Michelle Herman (Altoona, Pa./Hollidaysburg).
 
Herman ran one of the fastest races of her career, as she posted a time of 24:51.94, crossing the 25:00 barrier and averaging 4:09 per kilometer on the 6K course to post her second top-10 finish of the year, this time in a 137-runner field.
 
Senior Ashley Buck (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township), running her first 6K race, posted a time of 27:18.48 to take 43rd and freshman Rachel Salmon (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) came in 82nd with a time of 29:06.47, knocking a half-minute off her time from the Delaware Valley Invitational two weeks ago. Sophomore Heather Cunningham (York, Pa./Central York) came in 100th with a time of 30:20.27, knocking a 1:32 off her previous best and junior Carmen Niemeyer (Brookings, S.D./Brookings) posted a time of 30:50.48.
 
Freshman Chelsea Henderson (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) came in 114th in a time of 31:46.17, dropping nearly four minutes off her previous best and sophomore Meaghan Jones (Lansdowne, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara) added a time of 36:46.99, also dropping four minutes off her previous best.
 
On the men’s side, the Warriors also showed marked improvement while finishing 13th in a 14-team field, as all of the team’s runners posted season-best times.
 
Freshman Peter Rittenhouse (Green Lane, Pa./Quakertown Community) kept melting time off his best time, running a 30:26.26 to take 52nd and improve his previous best by nearly 50 seconds. Junior Michael Puchalski (Redlands, Calif./Redlands East Valley) notched a season-best 32:09.26 to take 69th and sophomore Rory McAtee (Easton, Pa./Wilson) added a season-best time of 32:23.18 to finish 72nd. Freshman Josh Allabaugh (Nanticoke, Pa./Greater Nanticoke Area) added a season-best time of 33:16.66 to take 78th and sophomore Alex Bottorff (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) rounded out the top five for the team with an 81st place finish in 33:33.94.
 
Sophomore Chris McAtee (Easton, Pa./Wilson) took 82nd with a season-best time of 33:43.96 and senior Kevan Guerin (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) added a season-best time of 36:17.26 to take 92nd. Freshman Jacob McClain (Cogan Station, Pa./Jersey Shore) added a time of 36:37.26 and freshman Jamal Nelson (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) crossed the line in 37:44.75. Junior Paul Tokgozoglu (Dayton, Md./Cedar Brook Academy) notched a time of 38:06.65 and freshman Austin Sungenis (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) crossed the line in 38:28.27.
 
Sophomore Jalil Samuel (Parkton, Md./Hereford) posted a season-best time of 39:40.29, freshman James Ahrens (Corning, N.Y./Corning East) added a season-best time of 40:33.95 and senior Pat McAtee (Easton, Pa./Wilson) ran a season-best 41:51.27.
 
The Warriors now will get set to run at the Lock Haven Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 22. The races are set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
