ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior
Taylor Lesser (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) became the seventh player in school history to reach 100 career hits to highlight the Lycoming College softball team’ Commonwealth Conference twinbill at Lebanon Valley on Saturday, April 28, as the Warriors fell 5-0 and 8-1, at the LVC Softball Park in their season finale.
In the first game, junior
Amy Cline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) wrapped a sixth-inning single to break up a no-hit bid by Lebanon Valley’s Kristen Palmerio, as Palmerio tossed a one-hit shutout to post a 5-0 win.
Palmerio walked three and hit one batter, as the Warriors stranded all six runners in the game, as no runner got past second base.
The Flying Dutchmen (25-13 overall, 11-3 Commonwealth) scored three runs in the first inning, thanks to a two-out two-RBI double from Steph Hulme, and added two more in the third inning, as Allie Hartman and Hulme each hit doubles in the inning.
Tessa Deardorff went 2-for-3 with a run and Hulme went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles and three RBI to lead the Dutchmen. Steffani Secola also added two hits and two RBI.
Junior
Holly Lansberry (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville Area) (4-10) tossed a complete-game for the Warriors (10-23 overall, 3-11 Commonwealth), allowing nine hits and five runs. She struck out six. Palmerio struck out seven in the one-hitter for the Dutchmen.
In the second game, the Dutchmen broke open the game with a five-run third inning thanks to home runs from Hartman, Hulme and Alexa Maddy.
The Warriors got on the board in the first inning, as Lansberry reached on an error, took second on a bunt single by freshman
Kristin Steiner (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) and third on a sac bunt. A groundout helped her score.
The Dutchmen scored two runs in the bottom of the inning before breaking the game open in the third. Lesser reached the 100-hit mark with a line shot into center field in the fifth inning, as Palmerio (17-8) scattered six hits in the complete game win. She struck out three.
Junior
Brie Braga (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) (5-10) took the loss for Lycoming, allowing seven hits and seven runs in 2 2/3 innings.
The Warriors wrapped up 2012 with a 10-23 record, reaching double-digit wins for the fourth straight campaign.
