CHESTER, Pa. – Junior Holly Lansberry (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville Area) tied a 16-year old school record and junior Brie Braga (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) threw a complete-game five-hit shutout to highlight the Lycoming College softball team’s split of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Widener University on Saturday, April 21, falling in the first game, 4-2, before winning the second, 2-0.

Lansberry tied the mark for longest hitting streak quickly, as she led off the first game with an infield single, marking her 17th straight game with a hit to tie the mark of 17 games set by Amy Long in 1996. She added a single up the middle in the fifth inning for good measure. The streak ended in the second game, though, as she went 0-for-3 with a walk.

Braga (5-9) shut the Pride (21-15 overall, 5-7 Commonwealth), never letting a runner past second base while tossing the complete-game shutout. She struck out five and walked two while allowing five hits to lift the Warriors (10-21 overall, 3-9 Commonwealth) to the 2-0 win.

The Warriors left the bases loaded in the first inning before breaking through in the second frame, as Braga led off with a double. After moving to third on a sac bunt by freshman Katie Pugh (Sykesville, Md./Century) and scored on a sac fly by junior Allyson Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge).

In the third, freshman Kristin Steiner (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) added to lead with her first career home run, a shot down the right field line.

Meanwhile, Braga rolled through the Pride, allowing a runner to reach in six of the seven frames, but leaving all seven base runners stranded. In the sixth, with runners on first and second and one out, she got a line out and strikeout to end the inning without any damage.

Steiner went 2-for-4 with a run, a double, a homer and RBI to lead the Warriors offensively. Junior Janelle Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) added two hits.

Jody Salvatore led the Pride with two hits in the game. Christine Mattis (9-6) took the loss for the Pride, allowing seven hits, a walk and two runs in 4 1/3 innings.

The Warriors took an early lead in the second game, but a pair of two-run innings helped the Pride come-from-behind for the 4-1 win, spoiling a four-hitter by Lansberry.

Lansberry got the Warriors on the board in the first inning, as she led off with an infield single before taking second on a sac bunt by Steiner. After a strikeout, junior Amy Cline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) delivered a single through the left side to drive in Lansberry.

An error, two walks, a hit batter and a leadoff double by Shelby Mackintosh in the second inning helped the Pride take a 2-1 lead. Lycoming tied the game in the fifth inning, as Braga doubled with one out and sophomore Abbi Miller (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) followed with a single through the left side before Marianelli lifted a sac fly to center field.

In the bottom of the inning, though, the Pride took the lead back with two runs thanks to two hits, a walk and a hit batter.

Lansberry went 2-for-3 with a run to lead the Warriors and Cline also added two hits.

Salvatore had a hit, a walk and a run and Mackintosh posted a double and an RBI thanks to a hit batter to lead the Pride.

Lansberry (4-9) allowed just four hits and four walks in the complete game for the Warriors, leading to three earned runs. She struck out three.

Jackie Korang (11-7) threw five innings to earn the win for the Pride, as she allowed seven hits and two earned runs. Mattis picked up the save with two innings of one-hit relief. She struck out one.

The Warriors will look to get back on the field on Sunday, April 21, as they host Susquehanna in their annual NFCA Strike Out Cancer twinbill at 1 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
