WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Holly Lansberry (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville Area) extended her hitting streak to 16 games and tossed a four-hit shutout in the first game of Wednesday, April 18’s doubleheader, as the Lycoming College softball team split a pair of games with Elmira, 5-0 and 6-0, in non-conference action at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

Lansberry finished 3-for-8 at the plate, posting two hits in the first game and one on a looping liner in the second game to move within one game of the school record 17-game hitting streak by Amy Long in 1996.

On the hill, she was outstanding as well, improving to 4-8 while striking out six in her fourth career shutout and 25th career victory. She let just one runner reach third base, while stranding four runners in the first game.

The Warriors (9-20 overall) finally broke through in the fourth inning after four runners were left stranded in the first three innings. Junior Amy Cline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) took a pitch the other way and it rolled to the right field wall, helping her cruise into third with a triple. She scored on a groundout.

Lycoming got another run in the fifth inning, as junior Allyson Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) singled to center field and Lansberry followed with a single through the left side. After a sac bunt and a walk, a sac fly by junior Janelle Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) helped Marianelli score.

The Warriors broke the game open in the sixth inning, as freshman Kali Moeller (Frederickburg, Va./Chancellor) led off with an infield single. She stole second and moved to third on a single to center field by sophomore Abbi Miller (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area). Marianelli was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a flyout, freshman Kristin Steiner (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) drew a walk to drive in Moeller and junior Taylor Lesser (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) delivered a two-RBI single to center field for her 98th career hit to cap the game’s scoring.

Lansberry, meanwhile, retired nine batters in a row at one point and left a runner stranded at third with one out in the sixth thanks to a pair of groundouts.

Lesser went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two walks to lead the Warriors and Cline added a 2-for-3 game with a triple and a run. Miller also went 2-for-3 and Marianelli scored two runs.

Sarah Johnson (2-4) took the loss for the Soaring Eagles (7-7 overall), as she allowed seven hits and one earned run in 4 1/3 innings. She walked two and struck out one.

In the second game, Sarah Hobson tossed a five-hit shutout for the Eagles in the 6-0 win, as she held the Warriors scoreless for the first time in 15 games.

Katie Dore led the Eagles, as she hit a leadoff home run and Alex Andrade also hit a first-inning homer. Dore finished 2-for-4 with two runs, a double, a homer and two RBI.

Shannon Nelligan went 2-for-3 and Gillian Gravel went 2-for-2 with a run for the Eagles, who broke open a 3-0 game with three runs in the fifth inning.

Hobson (2-3) struck out three and walked just one in the game. She didn’t allow a runner to reach third in the game.

Junior Brie Braga (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) (4-8) took the loss for the Warriors, allowing two hits and two runs in one inning. Freshman Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) allowed five hits and two earned runs in three innings, as she struck out three and freshman Nikki Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) also tossed three innings, allowing two hits and one run.
