EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – Junior
Holly Lansberry (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville Area) extended her hitting streak to 14 games and the Lycoming College softball team jumped out to a three-run lead en route to a 4-1 win over Wilkes to post a split in the non-conference doubleheader after falling in the first game, 5-4, in eight innings.
Lansberry went 5-for-6 in the twinbill, posting three hits in the first game and two in the second while posting two runs and two RBI. She matched Jeanine Evans’ 14-game hitting streak from 1999 in the process.
Junior
Brie Braga (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) led the Warriors (8-19 overall) in the second game, tossing a six-hit complete game and freshman
Katie Pugh (Sykesville, Md./Century) scored twice as Lycoming notched a 4-1 win to post the split.
Lansberry got the Warriors on the board in the second game, as she singled up the middle and took second on an illegal pitch before junior
Amy Cline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) followed with a single. After a groundout, a sac fly by freshman
Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) scored Lansberry. Junior
Janelle Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) walked, setting up a double steal, with Cline sliding safely into home.
In the second inning, Pugh led off with a double, moved to third on a groundout and after a walk, she scored on a sac fly by Lansberry.
Braga (4-8), meanwhile, settled into a groove after allowing two base hits in the first inning, she retired 17 batters in a row before the Colonels (6-18 overall) finally broke through when Alysha Bixler doubled with one out and scored after a single by Jordan Borger.
The Warriors got the run back, though in the seventh, as Pugh doubled with one out and took third on an error before scoring on a sac fly.
Poorman went 2-for-3 and Pugh went 2-for-4 with the two doubles and two runs to lead the Warriors offensively.
Borger led the Colonels with two of the team’s six hits. Bixler (0-10) took the loss, allowing nine hits and three earned runs in the complete game.
Despite a 3-for-3 effort at the plate and a complete game on the mound by Lansberry, the Warriors fell victim to a two-run eighth inning rally by the Colonels, who notched the 5-4 win.

Taylor Lesser (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) drew a walk. After a strikeout, Braga was hit by a pitch to load the bases before an error helped Lansberry score.
In the third inning, Cline led off with a single and reached third on an error before scoring on a fielder’s choice.
The Colonels tied the game, though in the fourth, thanks to doubles by Jessalyn Paveletz and Mandy Seccia and they took the lead in the fifth when Jordan Borger homered to make it 3-2. The Warriors fought back to tie the game in the sixth inning, as junior
Allyson Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) singled with two outs and Lansberry followed with an RBI double, sending the game to extra innings.
In the eighth inning, Lycoming tallied a run with the international tiebreaker, as freshman
Nikki Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) singled to lead off, moving Braga to third. After a pair of outs, Braga stole home.
Wilkes was able to score two in the bottom half of the inning, using an error, a walk, a pair of fielder’s choices and a wild pitch before Dayna Finch hit the game-winning RBI single.
Lansberry went 3-for-3 with a run and RBI, posting nearly half of the team’s eight hits. On the mound, she allowed just six hits, three earned runs and two walks in 7 2/3 innings. She struck out eight. Marianelli also added two hits and a run.
Borger led the Colonels with two hits and two runs and Seccia added two hits. Laykin Hughes (5-5) earned the win for Wilkes, tossing eight innings and allowing eight hits and one earned run. She struck out six and walked three.
The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday when they host Elmira on Wednesday, April 16, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex at 3 p.m.
