CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Stephen Hinton (Montclair, Va./Forest Park) extended his career-long winning streak to ninematches with a major decision, but the Lycoming College wrestling team fell to No. 13 SUNY Cortland, 33-4, at Corey Gymnasium in Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference action on Saturday night, Feb. 4.
 
Hinton notched a 16-5 major decision against Paul Fields to kick off the meet at 125 pounds, but that was the only win the Warriors (5-8 overall) could manage against the Red Dragons (16-2 overall).
 
Lycoming wrestled toughly in several matches against a lineup that featured seven wrestlers mentioned in the latest d3wrestle.com rankings, with seven matches being decided by decisions and the last three being decided by two points or less, including a highly anticipated matchup between third-ranked Jared Myhrberg and senior Russ Korbul (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) at 197 pounds. Myhrberg got a takedown and squeaked out a 3-1 win.
 
Junior Tyler Cunningham (Hadden Township, N.J./Hadden Township) came within a point of upsetting Carl Korpi, ranked as a contender by d3wrestle.com, before falling, 6-5, at 184 pounds, as Korpi scored the winning takedown with 43 seconds left. Freshman Sam Batchelor (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) lost the meet’s last match, 3-2, to Corey James, listed as honorable mention by d3wrestle.com.
 
The Warriors get back on the mat on Wednesday, Feb. 8, when they host No. 29 Stevens Tech at 6 p.m. in Lamade Gym.
