Warriors open MAC Championships in fifth

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -
All four relay teams in action for the Lycoming College swim team earned All-Middle Atlantic Conference honors to highlight the opening day of the MAC Championships at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center on Friday, Feb. 10. Both teams are in fifth place through the first 10 events, with the women at 62 points and the men at 79.
 
Widener leads the women's championships after the first day with 188 points and Albright leads the men's with 250 points.
 
On the men's side, the Warriors took fourth in both the opening 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay, both squads dropped their seed times to earn second team all-conference honors.
 
Sophomore C.J. Arhontakis (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove), freshman Dan Woods (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North), freshman Sean Marshall (Waverly, N.Y./Athens) and sophomore Zack Brower (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) finished fourth with a time of 1:29.42, dropping their time by three-tenths of a second.
 
In the 400-yard medley relay, Woods, senior Joe Andrie (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley), freshman T.J. Guminski (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and Brower posted a time of the 3:42.50, dropping their seed time five seconds as Brower posted a 100-yard freestyle time of 47.88 to wrap up the race.
 
On the women's side, both relay squads also dropped their seed times en route to fifth-place finishes to earn second-team all-conference honors. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, freshman Brigid Clark (Springfield, Pa./Wyndmoor), freshman Taylor Berry (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East), freshman Lexi Follweiler (Coaldale, Pa./Panther Valley) and junior Caitlin DeAngelo (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) posted a time of 1:44.02, dropping their seed time by a second.
 
Freshman BethAnn Schwoyer (Williamsport, Pa./Homeschooled), freshman Danielle Loiseau (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Follweiler and Clark helped the 400-yard medley relay posted a time of 4:15.89, dropping the seed time five seconds.
 
Individually, Clark led the Warriors by finishing ninth in the 50-yard freestyle, posting a season-best time of 25.59 to win the consolation final. She bested her seed time by .41 seconds in the race.
 
The Warriors had a solid performance in the 200-yard individual medley, as the three in the consolation finals finished second to fourth. Loiseau led the group by finishing second with a time of 2:19.12, besting her season-high by more than a second, Follweiler finished third at 2:19.89, as she dropped her seed time by six seconds, and Schwoyer took third at 2:21.17, as she dropped her seed time by two seconds.
 
On the men's side, Brower led three Warriors that earned points in the 50-yard freestyle, as he posted a time of 22.68 to take second in the consolation final and Arhontakis came in right behind at 22.77 to take third, dropping his seed time by .22, while Woods finished fifth in the race at 22.84.
 
Andrie took 15th, notching a time of 2:08.58, in the 200-yard individual medley. Senior Myles Biggs (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) posted a time of 5:11.72 to finish 16th in the 500-yard freestyle. Biggs swam a time of 5:11.46 in the preliminaries, as he notched a season-best time by more than 10 seconds.
 
The second day of the MAC Championships open with the preliminary rounds at 9 a.m.
