Warriors edged out by Pride

CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York) posted a team-season-high 20 kills for the Lycoming College volleyball team, but Widener University was able to edge out Lycoming, 3-2 (18-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 14-16), to snap its eight-match winning streak, on Tuesday night, Oct. 9, in Commonwealth Conference action.
 
The fifth and final set was a nail-biter and could have gone in either team’s direction, as the score never reached more than a one point margin between the two teams.
 
Richardson finished with a .486 hitting percentage (20-2-37) while also posting 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Junior Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) added 43 assists, 17 digs and four aces for the Warriors (16-5 overall, 2-3 Commonwealth), notching her 10th double-double of the year.
 
Junior Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) posted nine kills, four digs and two blocks and sophomore Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) added eight kills and 12 digs. Senior Jackie Oliva (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area) added seven kills and two blocks and sophomore Kylee Sutton (Wysox, Pa./Towanda Area) notched six kills, four digs and three blocks. Sophomore Kristin Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) added a match-high 32 digs.
 
Widener was led by 18 kills and 11 digs from Kaitlin Scnalzer and 13 kills, 17 digs and two blocks from Angela DiMaria. Veronica Vizzard posted eight kills and five blocks and Maggie Greenberg posted 40 assists and 10 digs. Meghan Spence led the team with 28 digs.
 
Lycoming gets back on the court on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. at Lancaster Bible College.
