ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior
Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) posted 67 assists, moving into third in school history in the category to lead the Lycoming College volleyball team to a pair of wins at the MAC Crossovers at Lebanon Valley College on Saturday, Oct. 6, as the Warriors downed Delaware Valley, 3-1, before sweeping FDU-Florham, 3-0.
McKillop finished the day with 2,535 career assists, one more than Abby Myers put together from 2006-09, as she moved into third in school history. McKillop became the fourth player in school history to reach 2,500 assists during the match with Delaware Valley.
The Warriors won their eighth straight match with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-14) sweep of FDU-Florham, holding the Devils to a -.011 hitting percentage while scooping up 45 digs and serving up 16 aces. The winning streak is the longest since the 2003 team won eight straight from Sept. 10-Sept. 26, 2003. The 1997 team won a school record 17 matches.
Freshman
Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York) and junior
Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) led the Warriors with seven kills each. The Warriors pounded down 30 kills in the three-set match, with senior
Jackie Oliva (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area) posting five kills.
Sophomore
Kristin Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) posted 19 digs and three aces and McKillop added 24 assists and four aces. Sophomore
Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) added 11 digs, four aces and three kills.
Savannah Hickox led the Devils with eight kills and Riley Brewer added 12 assists and six digs. Madison Cicchetti posted 14 digs and Erin Fleming added three blocks.
In the opening match, the Warriors got three players into double-figure kills en route to the 3-1 (27-25, 26-24, 22-25, 25-20) win, led by 15 kills from Oliva.
Oliva, who hit .387, added two blocks and paced the Warriors, while Gear added 12 kills and four blocks and Richardson posted 10 kills, her sixth straight match in double figures, six digs and three blocks.
McKillop finished with 43 assists, 17 digs, four aces and four blocks. Whitehead added 17 digs and four aces. Junior
Chelsee Strine (South Boardman, Mich./Forest Area) posted four kills and 12 digs and Seibel notched 11 digs.nine kills and 17 digs
Janel Gluch posted 22 kills and five blocks to lead Delaware Valley (10-7 overall) and Destinee Horning added 14 kills and 16 digs. Gina Page contributed nine kills and 17 digs and Crystal Ronan posted 48 assists and three aces.
The Warriors get back on the court on Tuesday, Oct. 9 when they head to Widener for a 7 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
