GRANTHAM, Pa. – Three Lycoming College volleyball players finished in double figures in digs on Wednesday night, Sept. 14, in the team’s Commonwealth Conference opener at Messiah, but the Falcons used 13 blocks to help it to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-21) win at Brubaker Auditorium.
Freshman Kristen Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) led the team with 13 digs, senior Heather Keller (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) added 12 and freshman Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) posted 10 of the team’s 51 digs, as the Warriors (3-5 overall, 0-1 Commonwealth) posted three more digs in the match than the Falcons (7-2 overall, 1-0 Commonwealth).
Seibel also led the team with seven kills and a block and freshman Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) added five kills to lead the team. Sophomore Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) added 17 assists and four digs.
The Falcons posted six kills and three digs and Jessica Geib notched 13 assists and five digs. Lindsay King notched six blocks and Jordyn Scheib notched four. Megan Wise and Allison Hill each added seven digs to lead the team.
The Warriors fought back from a 12-9 deficit in the third set before fighting back to tie the match at 14 thanks to a run that featured kills from Keller and Gear. The team’s traded points back and forth to a tie at 21 before the Falcons won the last four points to clinch the match.
Lycoming will look to get back in the win column on Saturday, Sept. 17, when they face Wilkes and Baptist Bible (Pa.) during a tri-match at Baptist Bible College. The Warriors face Wilkes at 10 a.m. and Baptist Bible at 12 p.m.
