Warriors fall in Commonwealth semifinals

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown College advanced to its seventh straight Commonwealth Conference Championship match on Wednesday, April 27, as it ended the Lycoming College women’s tennis team’s season, 5-0, in the conference semifinals at Alumni Courts.

The Warriors (5-7 overall, 3-3 Commonwealth) wrapped up a memorable season, as the No. 4 seed earned its first trip to the Commonwealth Conference playoffs in school history and posted its first five-win season since 2002.

The top-seeded Blue Jays (11-5 overall) posted three doubles wins and added wins at No. 4 and No. 6 to clinch the match. At No. 1 singles, sophomore Megan Gardner (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) won three games in her first set against Madison  Pipkin before the match was pulled off the court as the Blue Jays clinched. Freshman Sayumi Akashi (Kanagawa, Japan/University of the Sacred Heart) also won three games in the first set.
