READING, Pa. – With a 7-2 win over Albright on Monday, April 25, in Commonwealth Conference action, the Lycoming College women’s tennis team earned the fourth and final slot in the conference playoffs, which begin on Wednesday, April 27.

The Warriors (5-6 overall, 3-3 Commonwealth) finished in a three-way tie with Messiah (4-10 overall, 3-3 Commonwealth) and Alvernia (9-5 overall, 3-3 Commonwealth) for third place. Due to that, the Falcons earned the third seed based on the conference’s third tie-breaker criteria, the number of individual matches won amongst competition between the tied teams. The Falcons won 11 matches, the Crusaders' nine and the Warriors' seven.

To determine the fourth seed between Alvernia and Lycoming, the conference's first tie-breaker - head-to-head competition - was used. Since the Warriors won the meeting earlier this year, 5-4, they earned the seed.

Lycoming won two of the three doubles matches, with freshmen Linda Fogg (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) and Ellen Phillips (Muncy, Pa./Muncy) posted an 8-5 win over Kelly Irwin and Nazma Ali at No. 2 and freshman Kathy Jacobs (Milton, Pa./Milton) and sophomore Adriana Rivera (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) added an 8-1 win over Atiya Lewis and Darleny Melo at No. 3.

In singles play, the Warriors took control in flights two through six, with senior Rebecca Reynolds (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) posting a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 win over Irwin at No. 2. Fogg added a 6-0, 6-4 win over Desiree Owle at No. 3 and Jacobs notched a 6-0, 6-0 win over Ali at No. 4. Rivera notched a 6-1, 6-1 win over Melo at No. 5 and Phillips posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lewis at No. 6.

The Warriors head to No. 1 seed Elizabethtown on Wednesday, April 27 at 3:30 p.m.
