Sophomore Brie Braga (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) led the Lycoming College softball team with three hits and a homer, but No. 24 Lebanon Valley was able to sweep a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader, 6-2 and 10-2, on Friday afternoon, April 15, at James Short Park.

In the first game, the Dutchmen (20-5 overall, 8-2 Commonwealth) jumped out to a 6-0 lead before hanging on late for a 6-2 win, as Laura Snyder pitched a complete-game five-hitter.

Braga got the Warriors (9-9 overall, 3-3 Commonwealth) on the board in the bottom of the fifth, as she delivered a towering shot over the right field fence for her team-leading second homer of the year.

The Warriors added another run in the sixth to make it 6-2, as sophomore Taylor Lesser (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) delivered a one-out double to left field before senior Shauna Starr (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) knocked a two-out single into left-center to score Lesser.

Lebanon Valley took a 4-0 lead after the third inning thanks to two two-run innings, as Allison Hartman hit a solo homer in the second and Meghan Donoghue went deep for a two-run shot in the third. The Dutchmen added two more in the fifth inning as Katie Freeman hit a two-run double down the left field line.

Sophomore Allyson Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) went 2-for-3 to lead the Warriors. Sophomore Holly Lansberry (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville Area) (6-4) took the loss, allowing nine hits and five earned runs. She struck out six and walked one.

Meghan Donoghue led the Dutchmen, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI and both Allison Hartman and Kristen Palmerio each added two hits and Palmerio scored twice. Snyder went the distance in the circle, allowing five hits and striking out nine.

In the second game, the Dutchmen broke it open with six runs in the last three innings to take a 10-2 decision.

After the Dutchmen scored three unearned runs in the top of the first, the Warriors drew within two runs in the bottom of the second with a single run. Braga led off the inning with a single and freshman Abbi Miller (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) followed with a walk. After a sac bunt, sophomore Bethany Garnand (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg)singled into left field to drive in Braga. However, the Dutchmen got two groundouts and a fly out to get out of the inning without further damage.

In the top of the third, the Dutchmen got a homer from Donoghue, but the Warriors responded as sophomore Janelle Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) drilled a double to left center. After a flyout, Braga singled to move freshman pinch-runner Amanda Conner (South Bound Brook, N.J./Somerset Vo-Tech) to third, where she scored on a groundout.

The Dutchmen offense continued to roll, though, with single runs in the fourth and fifth before scoring four runs on four hits and an error in the sixth. Val Malizzia (9-1) kept the Warriors off the scoreboard in the last three frames, working out of two jams with runners on third base, but finishing off the complete game with six innings pitched, seven hits allowed, three walks and two strikeouts.

Braga (2-4) took the loss for the Warriors, allowing 14 hits and seven earned runs. She struck out two.
