WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Freshman Jennie Marosits (Mt. Lakes, N.J./Mt. Lakes) led a contingent of three Lycoming College women’s swimmers to top-eight finishes in the 500-yard freestyle to highlight Friday, Feb. 11’s, opening-day action at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at the Catholic Youth Center pool.
The women’s team finished the first day in fourth-place with a total of 114 points, behind only Misericordia (187), Widener (180) and Albright (164.5). The men’s team finished the day in a tie for fourth place with Messiah with a total of 70 points behind Albright (231), Misericordia (207) and Widener (198).
Marosits finished fourth with a career-best time of 5:24.87 in the 500-yard freestyle, nearly 15 seconds better than her previous best, just in front of sophomore Lindsey Hunsicker (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), who posted a season-best time of 5:26.80, 17 seconds better than her seed time, to take fifth and sophomore Elisa Becker (Reston, Va./South Lakes) also took seventh with a time of 5:32.16. She posted a season-best time of 5:30.03 in the preliminary round.
Senior Stacy Flick (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) won the ‘B’ final of the 200-yard individual medley to earn the Warriors nine points, as she posted a time of 2:16.56, which was the sixth-best time of the finals.
Senior Meg Emery (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) also earned a team-point in the 500-yard freestyle, taking 16th with a time of 5:42.48.
Sophomore Hope Weber (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) came in 15th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:23.80 and sophomore Caitlin DeAngelo (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) took 16th with a time of 2:32.90, after she posted a season-best time of 2:24.04 in the preliminary round.
On the men’s side, freshman C.J. Arhontakis (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) took 10th in the 50-yard freestyle to lead the Warriors, posting a season-best time of 22.63.
Junior Myles Biggs (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) notched a 13th-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, notching a season-best time of 5:10.26. Freshman Peter Fields (Burke, Va./Robinson) came in 15th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:09.66 and freshman Jake Pelinsky (Southwick, Mass./Westfield) took 16th with a time of 2:12.88 after posting a season-best time of 2:10.42 in the preliminary round.
In the opening 200-freestyle relay, both the men’s and women’s teams finished in fourth place, as Flick, DeAngelo, Marosits and Becker posted a season-best time of 1:43.63 for the women and the men’s team of Arhontakis, freshman Zack Brower (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North), junior Derek Lupia (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) and Pelinsky also posted a season-best time of 1:32.26.
In the evening’s final event, the women finished fourth in the 400-yard medley relay, as the team of Emery, Flick, Hunsicker and Becker finished in fourth place with a season-best time of 4:06.98, just a second and a half off the school record. The men’s team of freshman Jack Port (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff), junior Joe Andrie (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley), Fields and Brower finished sixth with a season-best time of 3:59.21.
The Warriors get back in the pool for day two of the championships at noon on Feb. 12.
