Willey, Hinton win, but Warriors fall to No. 17 Spartans, 27-6

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman Caleb Willey (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) came less than an inch away from a pin at 141 pounds, helping him post a 9-3 win to lead the Lycoming College wrestling team, but seven straight wins by No. 17 York (Pa.) helped the Spartans take a 27-6 win in non-conference action at Lamade Gym on Wednesday night, Nov. 16.

The Warriors (1-1 overall) got out to a strong start as senior Stephen Hinton (Montclair, Va./Forest Park) started the match with a 7-3 win over Nick Rea at 125 pounds for his first win of the year. After a York decision at 133 pounds, Willey came-from-behind for a decision against Landry Badman, 9-3. A third-period reversal was followed by a three-point near fall, and as time expired, Willey nearly notched the fall, giving the Warriors a 6-3 lead.

However, the Spartans (3-1 overall) posted the next seven wins and got four major decisions to wrap up the win.

Lycoming will get back in action on Saturday, Nov. 20, at the Central Jersey Open at The College of New Jersey.
