Warriors fall to Dutchmen

ANNVILLE, Pa. –
Junior Jackie Oliva (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area) led the Lycoming College volleyball team with nine kills and a .364 hitting percentage, but a hot-hitting Lebanon  Valley was able to take a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-18) win in Commonwealth Conference action at the LVC Gymnasium on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
 
Sophomore Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) added eight kills and freshman Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) posted five kills and nine digs. Sophomore Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) notched 25 assists and four digs and freshman Kristin Whitehead (Avon,  Ohio/Avon) notched eight digs. Both senior Heather Keller (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) and sophomore Kassidy Sedore (Poughkeepsie,  N.Y./Spackenkill) each added seven digs.
 
The Warriors took a 6-3 lead in the first set, but a 17-8 run by the Dutchmen helped them take control en route to the 25-16 win. In the second set, the Warriors held a 12-8 lead after kills from Oliva and Gear, but the Dutchmen fought back with a 13-4 run to take a 21-16 lead en route to the win. In the third set, the Dutchmen jumped out to a 7-3 lead and never led the Warriors closer than a point the rest of the way en route to the 25-18 win.
 
Lebanon Valley hit .291 (42-12-103) in the match, led by 10 kills each from Jamie Hawk and Nicole Barra. Kelsie Groff added eight kills and seven digs and Kacey Musselman added a double-double with 36 assists and 10 digs. Angela Kuperavage also added 10 digs.
 
The Warriors get back on the court with the Tip-Off Classic on Friday, Oct. 7 when they face Ithaca at 5 p.m. and Misericordia at 7 p.m. on the first day of the two-day tournament.
