Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) and junior
Jackie Oliva (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area) each posted 16 kills to lead the Lycoming College volleyball team to a split in its pair of matches at the University of Rochester’s New York Regional Challenge, falling to Rochester, 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-15), before beating SUNY Brockport, 3-1 (25-22, 25-14, 22-25, 25-11), in the afternoon match on Saturday, Oct. 29.
Oliva led the Warriors (15-19 overall) with 11 kills and a block in the win over Brockport (12-25 overall) and Gear added 10 kills, six digs and three blocks. Sophomore
Kendra Bitner (Newville, Pa./Big Springs) added five kills, three digs and three blocks and sophomore
Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) notched 26 kills, seven digs and a team-high five aces. Sophomore
Chelsee Strine (South Boardman, Mich./Forest Area) added eight kills and 17 digs and freshman
Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) notched five kills and 22 digs. Sophomore
Kassidy Sedore (Stomville, N.Y./Spackenkill) notched 19 digs and freshman
Kristin Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) posted 11 digs.
Against Rochester (19-15 overall), Gear led the team with six kills and Oliva added five kills and five digs. McKillop posted 21 assists and six digs and Bitner notched four kills and five digs. Sedore had 13 digs to lead the Warriors.
The Warriors will now get set for the Commonwealth Conference Championship semifinals as the tournament’s No. 4 seed, as they will face top-seeded Messiah on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.
