Crebs earns Robb Curry Jr. Coach of the Year award

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming College wrestling head coach Roger Crebs received the third Robb Curry Jr. Coach of the Year award, presented to him on Friday, Oct. 14, by longtime college administrator and assistant football coach Robb Curry at Lycoming’s 26th annual Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

In 2010, Crebs joined former Lycoming wrestling coach Budd Whitehill as the first coaches in NCAA Division III history to win 300 dual meets at the same school. The pair was the second set of coaches in the history of collegiate wrestling to have reached the mark, joining Minnesota's Wally Johnson and J Robinson. Crebs, who has a 308-91-2 (.771) career record, and Whitehill were joined by Springfield College coaches Daryl Arroyo and Doug Parker later in the season as the only pairs in Division III to reach the milestone.

For his outstanding career resume, Crebs earned entry into two Halls of Fame in the past year, the District 4 Hall of Fame and the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Hall of Fame, which he will be inducted into during the 2012 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.

The 2010-11 Warriors featured two 20-match winners in Isaiah Britton and Troy Hayre. Despite half the lineup experiencing injuries during the season, the Warriors still finished 13-11 and posted an upset of 21st-ranked Springfield College in the opening round of the Budd Whitehill National Duals.

The award, given annually to a member of the Lycoming College coaching staff, was established in memory of Robert (Robby) D. Curry ’05, who was the son of Susan and Robert Curry ’69. Susan was an educator in the Williamsport area for more than 33 years and Robb was Lycoming’s football recruiting coordinator and associate athletic director for Frank Girardi for 36 years. Robby was also the brother of Jessica Curry ’01.

Robby earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lycoming and was a brother of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Lycoming football was a way of life for him. As a youngster, Robby was a student manager/water boy for the Warriors. In high school, he served on the “chain crew” at home games. There was never a question in his mind about attending Lycoming and playing football for the Warriors. Robby achieved that goal as a freshman. During his final three years at Lycoming, Robby was the program’s head videographer at all games.

The fund was created as a monetary award to be given annually. All head coaches, full-time and part-time, are eligible for consideration for this award. Based on performance during the academic year, criteria include a winning record, both overall and in the conference, and whether the coach achieved the recruiting and roster goals for the year.
