GRANTHAM, Pa. – With a lineup that included five reserves due to injuries, the Lycoming College wrestling team fell to No. 29 Messiah College, 26-11, on Friday night at Brubaker Auditorium in Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference action.
Junior Stephen Hinton (Montclair, Va./Forest Park) got the Warriors (9-9 overall, 2-3 ECWC) off to a good start, posting a 7-6 decision over Andrew Rentzel to improve to 15-6 overall on the season.
The Falcons (8-6 overall) won the next two matches, but senior Isaiah Britton (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) helped the Warriors take the lead with a 12-3 major decision against Chris Hardenburg, improving to 18-3 on the season.
The Falcons took over from there, though, winning the next four decisions to take a 23-7 lead before senior Russ Korbul (Asbury, N.J./Northampton C.C.) notched four points with the Warriors by posting an 8-0 major decision against Tim Hopkins to improve to 12-5 overall. A Falcon decision at heavyweight made up the final margin of 26-11.
The Warriors get back in action on Thursday when King’s comes to Lamade Gym for a 7 p.m. non-conference dual to renew the rivalry between the two former Middle Atlantic Conference members.
