Box Score

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – A solid second half effort saw four different Lycoming College women’s soccer players find the back of the net as Lycoming posted a 5-1 win over King’s in non-conference action at McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday night, Sept. 29.

With the score tied at one, senior Kaitlin Horn (Ringtown, Pa./North Schuylkill) gave the Warriors (6-2 overall) the lead in the 56th minute, as she fired a shot from the top of the box into the right side of the net. With the goal, Horn moved into second alone in school history with 27 goals, moving past Donna Mongiello (1998-01).

Just two minutes later, it was fellow senior Kati Shaner (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) that found the net, taking a pass from junior Kelly Prendergast (Edison, N.J./Rutgers Prepatory) and firing it into the right side of the box. Shaner moved into a tie for seventh in school history with 17 goals with the score.

In the 76th minute, the Warriors struck again as junior Jussae Hanford (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) scored her first career goal as she headed a ball into the left post on a give from senior Kari Shaner (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville). Two minutes later, freshman Spencer Larson (Edgewater, Md./South River) added her first career goal on a give from Kari Shaner, heading a ball inside the right post off a corner kick.

The Warriors got on the board first, with some help from the Monarchs (1-9 overall), as an own goal helped Lycoming take a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute. The Monarchs got even less than two mintues later, as Becky Chateauneuf scored on a shot to the inside right post. Holly Spikol earned the assist with the pass from the right side.

Freshman Caitlin Dougherty (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) stopped one shot while earning the win in 81 minutes in net before sophomore Jennifer Basch (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) played the final nine minutes. King’s Melissa D’Aniello posted five saves, as Lycoming posted a 16-4 advantage in shots.

The Warriors will get back on the field on Saturday when Arcadia visits the Shangraw Athletic Complex for a 3 p.m. match.
