Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Once again, the top of the Lycoming College women’s tennis lineup proved to be the difference, as the duo of sophomore Megan Gardner and freshman Sayumi Akashi accounted for three points as Lycoming beat King’s (Pa.), 6-3, in non-conference action at Bruce Henry Park on Saturday, Sept. 25.
Gardner (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) and Akashi (Kanagawa, Japan/Sacred Heart) posted a 9-7 doubles win over Lauren Breen and Diana Darby at No. 1 doubles and then each went on to win their singles matches to help the Warriors (2-2) take control of the match.
Gardner downed Breen, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1 and Akashi beat Rachel Hoffnagle, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2.
The Warriors also picked up a point at No. 3 doubles, as freshman Kathy Jacobs (Milton, Pa./Milton) and sophomore Adriana Rivera (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) added an 8-6 win over Nicole Molino and Jennifer Bader.
After the pair of wins in singles, freshman Linda Fogg (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 over Maria Cometa. Freshman Ellen Phillips (Muncy, Pa./Muncy) added a super-set win over Molino, 8-2, for Lycoming’s final point.
King’s falls to 1-2 on the season.
The Warriors get back on Sunday, as they travel to Misericordia for a 12 p.m. match.
