SCRANTON, Pa. – Freshman Sayumi Akashi (Kanagawa, Japan/Sacred Heart) continued her solid play early in the year, as she posted a win at No. 2 singles for the Lycoming College women’s tennis team, which fell, 8-1, at the University of Scranton on Sunday afternoon.

Akashi posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Elisha Connell of Scranton for her second straight singles win. In her doubles match, Akashi played strongly with freshman partner #Megan Gardner# (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville), but the pair fell to Stephanie Boccuzzi and Devon Cohen, 9-7.

The Warriors fall to 0-2 overall and Scranton improved to 1-1.

The Warriors get back on the court on Tuesday when Juniata comes to Bruce Henry Park for Lycoming’s home opener at 3:30 p.m.
