SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s tennis team opened the 2010 season on Wednesday afternoon at Susquehanna University, falling to the Crusaders, 6-2, in non-conference action.

In doubles play, the Warriors posted an 8-6 win at No. 1, as the freshmen duo of Sayumi Akashi (Kanagawa, Japan/Sacred Heart) and Megan Gardner (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) downed Julia Lerner and Jessica Klinger.

In singles play, Akashi rounded out the day with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Abby Hess at No. 2 singles. At No. 5 singles, freshman Ellen Phillips (Muncy, Pa./Muncy) was ahead 7-5, 5-5 when her match with Whitney Arcaro was called due to darkness.

The Warriors get back on the court on Sunday when they travel to Scranton for a 1 p.m. match.
