WILKES-BARRE, Pa. –
The Lycoming College men’s swimming team concluded its 2009-10 season at the 2010 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship meet on Sunday, Feb. 14. As a team, Lycoming finished fifth amongst the conference’s 10 teams with 262.5 points.
Several of the relays had success, beginning with the 400-yard medley relay, which took fourth. The group of
Ben Hitchcock,
Joseph Andrie,
John Kitner and
Derek Lupia dropped six seconds from its preliminary time with a 3:43.83. The 200-yard medley relay of Hitchcock, Andrie,
Chad Lemmons and
Nicholas John picked up a fifth place finish with a time 1:42.06.
Individually,
Myles Biggs had one of the strongest Lycoming swims of the weekend in the 400-yard individual medley. Coming into the event with a seed time of 4:54.49, Biggs took ninth place, touching the final wall in 4:32.22, over 20 seconds faster than his seed time. In the 1,650-yard freestyle, an event seeded at the conclusion of the 1,000-yard freestyle, Biggs took eighth place with a finishing time of 17:59.53.
Hitchcock, a freshman took ninth in 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.64, nearly a second faster than his preliminary time. He also took sixth in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:04.00, dropping more than two seconds from his seeded time.
In the 200-yard breaststroke Andrie took fifth place with a 2:19.74.
During the final event of the meet, the group of John, Hitchock, Kitner and
John Dougherty earned a fifth place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:22.97, more than nine seconds faster than their seeded time.
