WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - During a pair of Middle Atlantic Conference meets, the Lycoming College men’s swim team defeated King’s College 79-14 and FDU-Florham 79-38 on Wednesday, Jan. 23. Freshman Ben Hitchcock contributed to three first-place finishes. The meet was held at the Wilkes-Barre Catholic Youth Center, which will also host the upcoming MAC championships Feb. 12-14.
The relay team of Hitchcock, Joe Andrie, Chad Lemmons and Nicolas John took first in the 200-yard medley, finishing in 1:39.89, dropping six seconds from their fastest time this season.
Hitchcock (Newark, Del./Newark) took a first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.54. He was followed by teammate Derek Lupia (Muhlenberg, Pa./Muhlenberg) in 53.15. Hitchcock took his second individual first place in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 59.14, ahead of fellow Warrior Trevor Silbernagel (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Twp.), who finished in 1:06.41.
Sophomore Myles Biggs (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) finished in second place in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 11:22.85. He also took first in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5:25.75. John Dougherty (Mountain Top, Pa./Bishop Hoban) took second in the event with a season-best time of 5:27.23.
John Kitner (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) and Lupia went one-two in the 200-yard freestyle, with Kitner touching in 1:59.51, narrowly beating Lupia, who posted a 1:59.57.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Andrie (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) took first place with a time of 1:05.21, followed by Mike Tonart (Dallas, Pa./Dallas), who finished in 1:11.81. Kitner and Joe Kuder placed first and second in the 200-yard backstroke. Kitner finished in 2:18.05, while Kuder (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) touched at 2:21.67.
Andrie wrapped up his day in the 200-yard breaststroke, getting to the wall in 2:26.04, winning by more than five seconds.
In Lycoming’s final scoring event of the day, Lemmons (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) finished the 100-yard butterfly in first place with a time of 59.38.
Lycoming swims in its final dual meet of the season on Saturday, Jan. 23, when it travels to Arcadia University. The first event is set to begin at 1 p.m.
