Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Senior midfielder Sammi Jo Bell had a hand in each of the goals in the Lycoming College women’s soccer team’s 2-1 overtime victory over King’s College on Tuesday, Sept. 29. The Lady Warriors extended their win streak four in the final non-conference game on the season.
With the win, Lycoming improves to 6-4-1 overall and the Lady Monarchs slip to 3-7.
King’s picked up an early 1-0 lead in the 18th minute as a Monarch forward broke loose and scored one-on-one. Both teams put plenty of shots on net, with Lycoming’s Brie Pepe and Chelsea Powers made a combined three saves before Pepe (Lafayette, N.J./High Point Regional) collided with a King’s player and left the game with an injury.
Lycoming continued to take offensive opportunities, taking five second half shots. The Lady Warriors finally connected on a goal, with Bell (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) dribbling into the King’s penalty box before dishing the ball back to freshman Leslie Kester (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) drilled the game-tying goal forcing overtime with 88:32 on the clock.
Two and a half minutes into the overtime period, Bell finished a corner kick off the foot of junior Victoria Michael (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) for the win.
Powers (Dover, Pa./Dover Area) made six saves on the day and allowed no goals to earn the win. Lycoming held a 7-1 advantage in corners.
Lycoming opens its Commonwealth Conference on Saturday, Oct. 3 when its hosts Widener University. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m. following a men’s soccer contest.
