Lady Warrior volleyball falls to Wilkes 3-1

Box Score WILKES-BARRE, Pa. --- The Lycoming College women’s volleyball team fell to cross Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Wilkes University on Wednesday, Sept. 2. Amy Sharlow and Abby Myers both recorded a team-high nine assists.

The loss drops Lycoming to an 0-2 record overall and improves Wilkes to 1-0.

The Lady Warriors started off strong, winning the first game 25-20, but the Colonels rallied to win the next three games 25-15, 25-11, 25-16 and take the match. Senior outside hitter Beth Machella (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) was the team leader in kills with six while sophomore libero Emily Abel (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) had a game-high 18 digs.

Seniors outside hitter Katie Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) and defensive specialist Alyssa Taylor (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Crest) were the leaders from the service line, Johnson tallied three service aces while Taylor dropped in two aces. Junior outside hitter Megan Schulze (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) posted two solo blocks.

The Lady Warriors are idle until Wednesday, Sept. 9 when they host Lancaster Bible. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in the Lamade Gymnasium.
