Lady Warriors drop two at Behrend, improve skills

--- The Lycoming College volleyball team may have dropped two games at the Penn State Behrend Invitational, but according to head coach Tim McMahon, “we got a step faster and got up higher on our blocks tonight. They are both solid teams and they’ll help us get better.” The Lady Warriors fell in both games 3-0 to Bethany College (W.V.) and the host school, PSU-Behrend on Friday, Sept. 11.

The pair of losses drops Lycoming to 1-4 on the season while Bethany improves to 5-2 and Behrend is now 4-3.

In the first match, Bethany won 25-20, 25-20, 25-23. Senior setter Abby Myers paced the offense with six kills each. Beth Machella (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) took 11 swings in the first match while sophomore Libero Emily Abel (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) cleaned up the back row with 26 digs.

Against the host Behrend, Machella and Myers scored six kills each. In the second match of the day, Machella took 28 swings and registered 10 digs while Abel again had a solid match, picking up 19 digs. Junior middle hitter Megan Schulze tallied four kills in the match.

The Lady Warriors are in action again Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Invitational. They will face Grove City College at 12:30 p.m. and D’Youville College at 2:30.
