COLUMBUS, Ohio – Lycoming College’s wrestling team traveled to Ohio State University for the Buckeye Duals on Sunday, Nov. 22, picking up a win, but falling in its next two matches. The Warriors defeated Mount Union College 23-22 and fell to Ohio Northern University 24-17 and Ashland University 21-20.
Lycoming is now 5-3 on the season.
Against the Raiders of Mount Union College, Lycoming opened at 125-pounds with Walker Faison (Virginia Beach, Pa./Cox) picking up a 12-5 decision. At 133-pounds, Andrew Lewis (Wyalusing, Pa./Wyalusing) earned the Warriors six points with a pin at 5:53 of the match. Issiah Britton (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Twp.) scored a major decision at 149-pounds, followed by a win by fall from Chris Dahlheimer (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) at 165-pounds. Troy Hayre (Falls Church, Va./McLean) scored the Warriors' final points of the match after a 9-5 decision.
In the Ohio Northern match, Lycoming picked up wins in the first two bouts with a pin in 2:18 from Faison and a 4-0 decision from Lewis. Britton scored a 15-0 technical fall at 149-pounds. At 165-pounds, two top-ten wrestlers squared off, with Ohio Northern’s No. 2 Luke Miller facing Lycoming’s No. 4 Chris Dahlheimer. Miller took the win 4-2.
The final match of the day against Division II Ashland University came down to the final bout. After dropping its first three weight classes, Britton picked up a 10-1 major decision. Dahlheimer exacted revenge from his previous match, winning with a 14-2 major decision. Hayre and Kyle Crouthamel (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Freedom) at 174-pounds each picked up decisions. Russell Korbul (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) earned the final win of the day 10-4.
Lycoming heads to Ohio Northern for its next match at the Ohio Northern Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 5. The first match is slated for 10 a.m.
