WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Behind three first place finishes from freshman Ben Hitchcock, the Lycoming College men’s swim team picked up its first victory of the season 149-69 over Elizabethtown College on Saturday, Nov. 14.
The win boosts Lycoming to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference while the Blue Jays slide to 1-2 on the year and 1-2 in the league.
Hitchcock (Newark, Del./Newark) picked up his first win of the day in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 57.76, beating the second place finisher by nearly five seconds. In the 200-yard backstroke, he won in a time of 2:20.89 and wrapped up the day swimming the first leg of the 200-yard medley relay, along with Joseph Andire, John Kitner (Great Mills, Md./Great Mills) and Nicholas John (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg). The group won in a time of 1:46.61.
In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Myles Biggs (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) took first in a time of 11:43.92. He also took the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle, stopping the clock in 5:26.23. John Doughtery (Mountain Top, Pa./Bishop Hoban) took second in the event with a time of 5:36.69.
Andrie (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) snagged first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.42.
Lycoming is on the road for its next meet when it travels to Dallas, Pa. to face difficult conference opponent Misericordia University on Wednesday, Nov. 18. The first event is set for 6:30 p.m.
