WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Since taking over the program ten seasons ago, head coach Jerry Hammaker and Lycoming College’s women’s swim team had never beaten Albright College until Saturday, Oct. 31. The Lady Warriors picked up the win 108.5 to 96.5 while the men’s team fell 108 to 88, also against Albright.
The win improves the women’s team to 1-0 overall, and 1-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference, but the men’s team falls to 0-1 in the season and 0-1 in the MAC.
Freshman Lindsey Hunsicker (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) took second in the 200-yard freestyle event, stopping the clock at 2:04.82. She also took first in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:43.40.
Hope Weber and Elisa Becker (Reston, Va./South Lakes) finished with a one-two punch in the 200-yard butterfly, with Weber (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) finishing in 2:20.51 and Becker in a time of 2:25.10
Junior Stacy Flick (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) was a multiple winner, taking the top spots in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.28 and the 200-yard breaststroke, with a time of 2:33.80.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Becker, Caroline LeHota (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area), Kara McGonnell (Olean, N.Y./Olean) and Randi Bosch picked up 11 team points for first place in a time of 1:46.33. Bosch (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) anchored the group with a final-leg time of 25.79.
For the men’s team, Ben Hitchcock (Newark, Del./Newark) nabbed second place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.88.
Joseph Andrie (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) picked up an additional nine points in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:26.35.
The Warriors are back in the pool on Saturday, Nov. 7 when they head to Collegeville, Pa. for a dual meet with Ursinus College. The match will begin at 2 p.m.
