WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, Sept. 20, defeating Commonwealth Conference opponent Albright, 8-1.
The Lady Warriors (1-3, 1-1) opened the match with a convincing sweep of the doubles points, winning by scores of 8-3 at the no. 1 position and 8-0 at both the no. 2 and no. 3 positions.
Aimee Snyder (Kempton, Pa.) and Rebecca Reynolds (South Williamsport, Pa.) defeated Marissa Cooperman and Lisa Archibald at the no. 1 position. Kelly Drinkard (Seaville, N.J.) and Erica Niemann (Taylor, Mich.) picked up a shutout win over Gabriela Toda and Stacy Bampton at no.2 and Kathryn Walker (Red Lion, Pa.) teamed with Jessica Souchik (Lewis Run, Pa.) to defeat Ashley Woodcock and Brittany Herbert at the no. 3 position.
Snyder, playing at the no. 1 singles position, dropped the first set but battled back to win the next two to defeat Cooperman (4-6, 6-0, 6-2).
Niemann picked up her first win of the season with a straight-set (6-4, 7-6) win over Bampton at the no. 3 position.
Drinkard, who also won her first match of the season, defeated Toda in straight-sets (6-1, 6-2) at the no. 4 position.
Walker joined the list of first-time winners this season with a straight-set victory over Woodcock at no. 5.
Souchik picked up her second-straight win by defeating Herbert, 6-0, 6-3, at the no. 6 position.
Reynolds dropped the first set of the no. 2 singles match, 1-6, to Archibald but battled back to win the tie-breaker and secure the second set, 7-6. In the decisive third set, she fell just short, 8-10, dropping the match.
The Lady Warriors will travel to Wilkes on Sunday, Sept. 21, for a Commonwealth match at 12 p.m.
